Floating the river

I’m new to the area and we want to know where and how to float the river. Does it flow toward ellensburg, or away? What’s the best spot to get in and out? Do I need a special floaty thing, or would a blow up pool float work? Do I need a life jacket?

Anything else I’m forgetting??
