Deputy credited with saving family after heated chicken coop starts house fire

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) – A Washington family credits a deputy’s quick action for saving them from a growing fire that spread to their house.   KOMO-TV reports Vince and Mary Cruz say they awoke Tuesday morning to Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Herrin pounding on their door, trying to warn them of the fire. Herrin was driving by when he saw the blaze. A heated chicken coop on the Cruz’s deck had caught fire and spread to the home.
